The
Photovoltaic Market Transformation Initiative (“PVMTI”)
is an initiative of the International Finance Corporation and the Global
Environment Facility, which aims to promote the sustainable commercialisation
of PV technology in the developing world by providing examples of successful
and replicable business models that can be financed on a commercial
basis.
Since
the launch of PVMTI in June 1998, PVMTI has committed more than US$19
million to nine projects in India, Kenya and Morocco and is in the process
of finalising additional projects for the remaining US$6 million available
under the PVMTI fund.
Progress
under existing projects is encouraging and management are pleased to
report that PVMTI is making good progress towards achieving its aims.
